Pictures and Review - 2009

The forecast was rain, lightning and thunder.
The field was wet from the night, and it wasn’t the “lush green” kind of wet.

Chaos seemed to be looming as we struggled to figure out how to set up the port-o-fields, and where they could be placed to avoid minor lakes, mud and metal objects imbedded on the playing field.

Isn’t it always like that? Murphy and his law seem to love Ultimate Frisbee.
But you know what, we laughed at Murphy and it resulted in a tournament filled with exciting play, fantastic food and a lot of laughs.

“Dream Team” won the tournament with convincing wins in all four matches.
“Freezing Bee’s” (formerly OSI) won the Spirit of the Game award after much scientific and socialistic analysis :-)

Team “BSI” took second place, after EZ forfeited their position in the final.
The reason for the forfeit is that EZ was left with only 5 players after the 4th match.
Since BSI had all players available and was eager to challenge Dream Team for a rematch, EZ players unanimously voted to let BSI play the final.

This write-up would be too long if I evaluated every team that played, but I can honestly say the level of competion was very high. Offense suffered a bit with the weather, but the defense and play was very intense and spirited. There were very few “free points” this tournament.

For me it was interesting to see the “Let’s do it” attitude from the EZ players.
EZ played three of it’s four matches with no substitutes and won three. The only loss came to Dream Team, but all the matches were intense and fast paced.
A couple high-points …
Down 4-0 in the third match against “Pickup”, EZ managed to win in overtime 8-7.
Down 6-5 in the fourth match against “Freezing Bee’s”, EZ again went to overtime and won 8-6.

Three times Ben went down with injuries, and three times he came back to play. Besides making some key scores, slapping down disks was his trademark this tourney.
Andras brought his game up to another level and consistantly helped move the disk on offense by being in the right place.
Martin and Kjetil were essential handler’s and calming influences in circumstances that quite often seemed hopeless but proved to be simply setbacks.
Tara gets a prize for team-work, persistence and for some timely scoring catches.
I don’t think Theresa turned the disk over once in 4 games. She was a rock!
Deepak, is always a positive force and proved to be a capable replacement when injuries took out EZ players, and Lasse stepped in to catch the final point against OSI.
Ole, our captain, was everywhere, offense and defense. It’s not an exaggeration to say we might not have won any games without him. Whoever said white men can’t jump, has never played frisbee with Ole. This man can fly!
Myself, I can’t really judge, but I can say, I left everything on the field and probably did more diving for disks … than an old man should do! Am I sore today? Oh Yeah!!

Special thanks to Jane who was responsible for the tournament organization and probably more cooking than she planned. Great Job Jane! :-)
Lasse supplied and manned the grills for a huge group of hungry players. There were a lot of smiles during lunch and the food was plentiful and tasty.

In all, it was a spirited, and very successful tournament, and I’d like to extend congratulations and thanks to all participants.
Thank you!! :-)
